Preamble

We, the members of Chi Rho do hereby establish this Constitution on February 1, 2010 in order that our purpose be realized to its fullest extent. 


Article I-Name    
The name of the organization will be Chi Rho Catholic Fraternity, henceforth referred to as Chi Rho. 


Article II-Purpose

Section 1: Chi Rho is established for the purpose of offering University of Dayton students a male Catholic Fraternity experience. This will offer members a chance to grow in their faith through traditional Catholic practices in the context of a challenging, brotherly community. Members will commit to supporting each other in the deepening of their faith lives. 


This fraternity of faithful men hope to form a faith community to grow together in the body of Christ. While focusing on the three pillars of faith, brotherhood, and service and by adhering to the Catholic Tradition, precepts, and values, we will instill them into our daily lives. 


This commitment will build a brotherhood that will encourage one another through prayer, fasting, and fellowship. Guided by the Holy Spirit members will seek to use the model of Christ and the apostles to set the world on fire through Christ’s passion and love.

Section 2: Chi Rho understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by the University of Dayton’s policies.


Article III-Membership

Section 1: Active membership shall be limited to persons officially connected with the University of Dayton as enrolled students. In addition, the following requirements are necessary to constitute membership. ·         To become a member, one must request membership from the officers and participate in the induction retreat. All inducted members are eligible to vote. 
·         Active membership includes: 
o   participating in brotherhood meetings (small faith sharing groups) 
o   Lord’s Day 
o    Chi Rho social events. 
o   Payment in full of financial obligations as determined by the organization, unless personal circumstances prevent such a payment.

Section 2: Inactive membership occurs when an agreement is reached between the officers and the member because there is a failure to meet commitments. Should there be a desire to leave the Fraternity, the member must meet with the officers to discuss this issue. If a member fails to pay dues, they will be excluded from social activities.


Article IV-Officers 

Section 1: Officers of Chi Rho must be full-time students enrolled at the University of Dayton. Chi Rho will be governed by the following means:
1.    An elected President is responsible for communication between Chi Rho and its adviser and Student Involvement and Leadership. 
2.     An elected Vice President will take care of funds and keep track of membership. The Vice President’s duties shall be to preside at all meetings and functions that the President can not attend. 
3.    Other positions may be created as needed by a majority vote by the fraternity. 


Article V-Operations 

Section 1: Voting eligibility Those members who have been inducted into the fraternity, both active and inactive, are able to vote.

Section 2: Election Process All officers shall be elected by a majority of eligible members of Chi Rho. All elections will be held on an annual basis by December 1 of each year, preferably before Thanksgiving. Elected officers will begin by December 1. All members are eligible to run for office except for those graduating before the next election date. Nominations will occur one week prior to elections. The president will take nominations either written or spoken from the floor and the nomination session must be closed by a majority vote. Voting will be done by a secret ballet to be collected and tabulated by an agreed upon member that has not been nominated. Officer elected midterm will assume office immediately after their election(in the case of resignation or removal of an officer).

Section 3: Removal         
Any officer of Chi Rho in violation of the organizations purpose or constitution may be removed from office at a meeting of the fraternity by the following process: a.    Written request by at least three members of the organization b.    Written notification to the officer of the request and asking the officer to be present at the next meeting prepared to speak in his own defense c.    All members shall be notified and the removal voted upon at the next meeting d.    75% of the voting membership must be in attendance to vote on removal of an officer. 2/3 majority vote is necessary to remove an officer.

Section 4: Should an officer resign or be removed a special election shall be held one week after written/email notification to all voting members. This special election shall be conducted as specified in Article V, Section 2

Section 5: All meeting will occur on a weekly basis or other regular basis at a time selected by Chi Rho and will be conducted by the President, Vice President, or any other selected member of Chi Rho. 

Article VI – Finances

Chi Rho will finance the activities it engages in by the following means: 1.    Membership dues and if necessary a fundraiser. 2.    Chi Rho will conduct all financial activities in accordance to University policies and place all funds in its university account.


Article VII – Amendments This constitution is binding to all members of Chi Rho, but the constitution is not binding unto itself.
Section 1: Amendments to the constitution may be proposed in writing by any member of Chi Rho at any meeting which 2/3 of its members are present.

Section 2: These amendments will be placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting of the full membership. Section 3: Proposed amendments will become effective if approved by a 2/3 vote of members at a meeting of at least 75% of members in attendance.
